Session 1 | Accelerating a sustainable recovery of Europe

Session 3 | Financial Innovation for Blue and Green Investment

This session will address the recovery path that lies ahead for Europe, namely the challenge for monetary and fiscal policies to support economic growth. The economic impact of the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility will be discussed with a focus on a green and digital economy. As financing the Green Deal will require significant investment from both private and public capital, speakers will also explore the role of capital markets in directing European savings to accelerate this goal, as well as promoting sustainable finance by incorporating ESG factors into investment decision-making.

Centred on investment, this panel will discuss how investors are shaping financial markets in their search for returns and impact, and how companies are adapting to that pressure. On the product side, speakers will look at the performance of ESG Bonds, be they Green, Social, Blue or Sustainability-linked, and their development as a financing and investment solution. The panel will also cover the growing relevance of ESG Indices, ESG ETFs and other ESG- linked products in reshaping investor portfolios, as well as whether the increasing retail participation in the marketsis pushing the ESG agenda.

The European Union is leading the way to become the first carbon neutral continent by 2050, setting the framework for finance to play a key role in pushing the sustainability agenda. This panel will focus on the EU Renewed Sustainable Finance Strategy going forward, and governance and social issues in particular.

As the establishment of common and internationally-recognised standards is key to attracting more investments, the session will also cover significant recent developments in ESG international standards, including taxonomies, accounting and reporting rules.

What would it take for the European Union to reach its goal of net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050? This session will explore the pathways to decarbonise Europe and its socioeconomic implications, with a special focus on blue activities.

The ocean has a key role to play in the recovery from the global pandemic, the transition to a net-zero resilient economy and the delivery of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The session will offer perspectives on how we can expand our use of the ocean to produce food, energy and mobility.
